A University of Texas student attended a protest against a state law that allows for guns in classrooms at college campuses, in Austin, Texas, U.S. August 24, 2016.

An Eye-catching Slogan for Anti-gun

‘Cocks Not Glocks’ – What a bold title that the University of Texas students used for their anti-gun protest!    “We are fighting absurdity with absurdity,” a protestor said.  (Based on a report by Reuters writer Jon Herskovitz which was published on the Huffington Post.)

This summer, while most college students were still on their long summer vacation, the state of Texas passed its state law and will allow students to carry concealed handguns legally on campus.

Anti-gun vs Carrying Gun on Campus

Many questions are raised after the announcement:

  • What would international students say about the new Texas state law?
  • Will international students feel safer on campus?   (Please keep in mind that an American student can carry a gun to a classroom.   However, an international student will not be able to because he/she is not eligible for purchasing a gun as a foreigner.)
  • Will this affect the enrollment of international students in Texas?
  • Will this drive international students to other states which do not permit guns on campus?

As an international student, what do you think about this law?
