Declining Applications from Key Countries Contribute to Slowed Growth in Prospective Student Interest,”  reported by the Council of Graduate Schools.

The number of international graduate students in fall 2016 was up 5% compared with the previous year.   However, due to the declining number of applicants from key countries, the total applications stayed flat.  It grew only 1% – the slowest increase in recent years.

 

Changes in International Graduate Applicants 2015-16

  1. China: +4%
  2. India: -1%
  3. South Korea: -5%
  4. Saudi Arabia: -20%
  5. Brazil: -11%
  6. Canada: -12%
