DeVry University currently has over 42,000 students at more than 55 locations in North America.   The university system belongs to a public-traded company called DeVry Education Group.

According to NPR.org, this university has been sued by the U. S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) for its false advertising.   The school claims its graduates average 15 percent higher incomes one year after graduation compared to graduates of all other colleges or universities.

FTC claims that in addition to DeVry’s misleading advertising, that it wrongly classified its graduates’  employment status.    For example, the school is said to consider its business administration and health services graduates who are working in restaurants to be gainfully employed.

Though DeVry University is under U.S. government’s scrutiny, it has replied with an expected argument- “FTC’s lawsuit is without a valid legal basis.”
